The Technical University of Kenya Joins the SYNAPSE Project to Empower Youth Through Systems Thinking and Virtual Exchange

The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) is proud to announce its participation in the SYNAPSE (System Thinking Virtual Exchange) Project, an Erasmus+ funded initiative that brings together partners from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa to empower young people through systems thinking, digital collaboration, and intercultural exchange. The TU-K Lead is Prof Levi Mbugua (Director, Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer), and will be assisted by Mr. Ishmael Obonyo (Directorate of Information and Communication Services) and Mr. Isaac Maina (Directorate of Research and Knowledge Management).
SYNAPSE (https://synapse-africa.eu/ ) aims to equip youth with future-ready skills by creating inclusive virtual exchange opportunities that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, and cross-border collaboration. Through the project, approximately 2,500 young people and 200 facilitators across participating countries will engage in structured learning experiences designed to address global challenges such as climate change, social inequalities, and digital exclusion.
The other institutions involved are Università Telematica degli Studi (IUL) as the Lead Project Co-ordinator, Italy, System Dynamics Italian Chapter (SYDIC), Italy, Asociación Mundus, Spain, Universidad de Almería, Spain, Pan-Atlantic University Foundation (Lagos Business School), Nigeria, Blue Sapphire Hub Foundation, Nigeria, Science Horizons Kenya, Kenya, National Youth Climate Action Network (Youth4CAN), Namibia, Apodissi, Namibia, Centre for Humanity and Sustainable Development, Malawi, Salesians of Don Bosco, Ethiopia.
As a key partner in the consortium, The Technical University of Kenya will contribute to stakeholder engagement, dissemination, capacity building, and the promotion of systems thinking among youth and higher education institutions. The University will leverage its academic expertise, research capacity, and extensive networks to support project implementation and ensure meaningful participation of Kenyan youth and educators.
The project seeks to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions, youth organizations, policymakers, and industry stakeholders while creating sustainable pathways for knowledge exchange between Africa and Europe. Through innovative learning methodologies and virtual exchanges, participants will gain practical skills, global perspectives, and opportunities to contribute to solutions for contemporary societal challenges.
The Technical University of Kenya invites students, educators, youth organizations, policymakers, and development partners to follow project activities and participate in upcoming engagement opportunities as the initiative progresses.
